Dr. Zamzurina Binti Abu Bakar is a Respiratory Consultant at Institut Perubatan Respiratori, Kuala Lumpur. She obtained her MB BCh BAO from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2000, completed her Master’s in Internal Medicine at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2009, and later pursued a Respiratory Fellowship with the Ministry of Health Malaysia in 2014. She has extensive experience in respiratory medicine, with particular expertise in tuberculosis, drug-resistant tuberculosis, and broader lung health. Over the years, she has been actively involved in numerous international and local research projects, including studies on tuberculosis treatment, chronic cough, bronchiectasis, asthma, COPD, lung cancer genomics, and artificial intelligence applications in TB diagnosis. In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Zamzurina has contributed widely at national and institutional levels. She has served in key leadership and advisory roles within the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Institut Perubatan Respiratori, including participating in national TB technical working groups, supervising respiratory fellowship trainees, spirometry trainer and contributing to the development of national clinical practice guidelines, especially in tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis. Dr. Zamzurina is also an active speaker, educator, reviewer, and author, with publications and lectures focused largely on tuberculosis, respiratory medicine, and public health. She continues to play an important role in advancing respiratory care, research, and TB control in Malaysia.
