Biography – Dato’ Dr. Mat Zuki Mat Jaeb
Dato’ Dr. Mat Zuki Mat Jaeb is a Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II), Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and currently serves as the National Head of Respiratory Medicine Subspecialty for the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Born in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, he graduated with an MBBS from the University of Malaya and later obtained his Master’s in Internal Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He completed fellowship training in Respiratory Medicine in 2008 at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine, Kuala Lumpur, followed by advanced training in Interventional Pulmonology in Marseille, France.
Dato’ Dr. Mat Zuki has held numerous leadership roles at national and institutional levels, including Chairman of the National Respiratory Drug Committee, lead technical working group for National Lung Health Initiatives and Chairman of the Medical Dental Advisory Board at HRPZ II. His clinical and research interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe asthma, tuberculosis—particularly drug‑resistant TB—and interstitial lung diseases. He has been a principal investigator in multiple international clinical trials and actively contributes to national clinical practice guidelines and respiratory training programmes.
An accomplished speaker and educator, he regularly presents at regional and international respiratory conferences and serves as an examiner and trainer for respiratory subspecialty programmes in Malaysia. His research publications focus on tuberculosis, COPD, and respiratory health outcomes in Malaysia, reflecting his commitment to advancing lung health policy, research, and clinical care.

Dato’ Dr. Mat Zuki Mat Jaeb is a distinguished Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and currently serves as the National Head of Respiratory Medicine Subspecialty for the Ministry of Health Malaysia. With over two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience, he is widely recognised as one of Malaysia’s leading experts in respiratory medicine and lung health policy.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Malaya and later completed his Master’s in Internal Medicine at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He subsequently underwent specialist fellowship training in Respiratory Medicine at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine, Ministry of Health Malaysia, followed by advanced subspecialty training in Interventional Pulmonology in Marseille, France. His international exposure has strengthened his expertise in advanced respiratory procedures and complex lung diseases.
At the national level, Dato’ Dr. Mat Zuki plays a pivotal role in shaping respiratory healthcare delivery, workforce development, and clinical governance in Malaysia. He has chaired and contributed to numerous national committees, including respiratory drug policy, guidelines on respiratory diseases, national tuberculosis control programmes,
subspecialty training, and clinical mortality reviews. His leadership extends to strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening lung health services, improving access to advanced therapies, and enhancing patient outcomes across the country especially National Lung Health Initiatives 2025-2030.
His clinical and research interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe asthma, interstitial lung diseases, bronchiectasis, and drug-resistant tuberculosis. He has served as principal investigator and national lead in multiple international clinical trials and has contributed extensively to Malaysian clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements. An active academician and sought-after speaker, he regularly delivers keynote lectures at national respiratory conferences and mentors the next generation of respiratory specialists.
