Dr. Koji Sakamoto is a Lecturer in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya University, Japan. He received his M.D. from Nagoya University in 2001 and earned his Ph.D. from the same institution in 2012. After several years of clinical training at Tosei General Hospital, a major referral center for interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) in Japan, he pursued postdoctoral research in pulmonary biology at Yale University. Dr. Sakamoto’s research focuses on the mechanisms underlying lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis, integrating clinical observations with translational investigation. His recent work has particularly focused on elucidating the pathogenesis of acute exacerbations of pulmonary fibrosis, identifying novel biomarkers, and exploring potential therapeutic targets. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has received several international honors, including the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation I.M. Rosenzweig Junior Investigator Award. He also contributes to national guideline development and scientific committees related to diffuse lung diseases.
